Quentin Klein
Quentin joined Acre as a Principal to lead technical recruitment in cleantech and decarbonization markets encompassing Power Generation, Alternative Energy, Clean Chemicals & Fuels, and Carbon Removals. His background is unique in that he studied Mechanical Engineering and spent five years in Research & Development before getting into recruitment.
He was responsible for leading various low TRL projects that required extensive design, simulation and testing work but he also overall worked hand in hand with material scientists, operators and business development teams to create new processes and new products for the defense mobility market.
For the past four years, Quentin has leveraged his engineering foundations to take a first principles approach to technical recruitment helping innovators across North America attract and attain the greatest engineers and technical leaders on the market.

Director of Engineering
Clean Technology
Houston, Texas, United States
On-Site
USD$180,000 - $220,000 +401K, Equity, Bonus
Acre has partnered with a rapidly growing business that has developed and commercialized a novel hydrogen production technology yielding never seen before industrial carbon emission reductions and economic advantages. This is a breakthrough invention that will change the world, and as they continue to grow and scale their commercial activities, a new role has opened.
The Director of Engineering will report to the Chief Operating Officer with dotted lines to the Chief Commercial Officer. The Director of Technical Proposals & Proposal Engineering will be responsible for owning the entire FEL process while serving as the techno-commercial SME supporting the Chief Commercial Officer.
Responsibilities
- Building out, expanding, and centralizing the Front End Loading (FEL) lifecycle. There are processes in place, but you are our expert responsible for perfecting them.
- Leading conceptual design efforts, overseeing FEL study execution, leading teams developing FEL deliverables, and leading negotiations and relationships with customers, vendors, and partners until signed order.
- Identify and manage risks throughout the FEL lifecycle. This is a startup where the future can't be certain, so having an understanding of when to take calculated and potentially aggressive risks is crucial.
- Mentoring colleagues and helping them improve their understanding of the FEL lifecycle
- Presenting technical proposals to customers alongside C-suite executives
What you'll bring
- An Advanced degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 15 years of experience working in relevant industries (hydrocarbon processing, hydrogen production, industrial gas, biofuels, RNG, petrochemicals, etc.)
- Proven experience leading and managing the FEL process for multiple projects. First-hand conceptual design expertise is required (you can easily interpret and use process software like HYSYS, Aspen Plus, AutoCAD, etc.)
- Outstanding commercial aptitude, excellent vendor management skills, and a willingness to take on the challenge of commercializing a first of a kind (FOAK) technology
- Ideally experienced in working on one of the following technologies (not required): Steam Methane Reformers (SMR), Auto Thermal Reformers (ATR), Air Separation Units (ASU), Hydrogen systems, Syngas, gas separation, CO2 capture, ammonia, methanol, etc.
There are few positions in the sector that provide as high a level of visibility as this with such a great growth trajectory, and out of those available, an even smaller amount are with businesses developing true breakthrough technology.
